Graphic Design Projects

THESE ARE PROJECTS FROM MY SOPHOMORE YEAR IN HIGH SCHOOL. THESE PROJECTS WHERE MADE IN ESSENTIALS OF GRAPHICS DESIGN. ENJOY!

Here is my first graphic design project from the 2013-14 school year. I used Illustrator. We had to make pencils with basic shapes. It was a struggle but I did it. I rarely used Illustrator during freshman year in e-Communication. Doing this was hard because of that limited experience and the fact that I was accustomed to photoshop. I think that this project didn't help me get any better
at using this program. For the first project of the year I don't think this is bad. But I think I could do better now. I'd rather not do this again though. I don't like Illustrator at all.

A little bit of research was needed for a text poster. So I needed to look up text effects. How they correlate I don't know. I just did the assignments as I was told to do them. I think the practical application of text effects is for headlines for text posters or for any headline needed. So I found a few cool text effects that I liked. Then I tried to do them myself. They all weren't easy but some where.

This is the text poster I ended up making. I made a mountain of text. I used words that described mountains like strong, tall, unmoveable, cold, and rocky. I could only used three colors
and I had to use black and white. I choose green but I used many different shades of green to make more visual interest in the poster and I think that worked. Then I made the background light gray so you could see the black, the white, and all the greens. I like how it turned out.

Around Halloween I made myself into a monster and a angel. I beautified the picture to the right to get the angel look there.

To the left I turned myself into Medusa from Greek Mythology/Percy Jackson. The monster me took so long because I had to duplicate the snake layers so many times, add multiple snakes and colorizing them all so they would be green. Then I had to make a hairline and everything that makes it look like hair. It wasn't easy but I got it with plenty of masks along the way.

Then the portrait angel I added wings along with a beautified face.  Not much to say about this picture. It wasn't all that difficult to do honestly.

I used Photoshop to do all of these projects. The pictures of myself I used I got from home.

In Illistrater and Photoshop we had to make spheres and we had to make them realistic. On the left I have my photoshop spheres. I use gradients to make the 3-D look on the red sphere. Mostly spherical gradients but i used linear gradients as well. I used a gradient to make the shadow and made a outer glow to make it look realistic. I added a sun so the shadows would make more sense.
Then on the right I have my Illustrator spheres. I made 5 original spheres and I cut two of them in half so I could put them on top of another. Then I made designs so I could warp them so I could make them look 3-D and like the designs were on  the spheres. Then I put a Christmas tree pattern behind them. I wanted it to look like the spheres I made where ornaments for the tree. I like how it turned out.

I made a artist card in photoshop. I choose a background and then choose a Mormon temple. I choose a temple because they look like castles a lot of the time and each one is different. The background was snowy and I used that to symbolize unexpected things in our lives and in Kansas that can very well mean the weather or simply loved ones dying and having a rough life. But I wanted it to look like I stumbled upon the temple or was looking hard for it. I want people to find their own temple or castle or equivalent to my temple. The temple I wanted to symbolize refuge physical, emotionally, and spiritually and to be a symbol of what I believe because what I believe is such a big part of who I am. But this temple isn't my favorite. I actually don't have a favorite temple, and it just so happened that this one worked the best with the artist card. Why this was the subject of my artist card is because I want to tell my costumers story and be able to show multiple elements of their story, how they are, and what matters most to them. With my artist card as an example of what I'm capable of when it comes to combining images, costumers know they can depend on me to get the job done.

I made a poster with the 10 Ten most important things to me. I wrote a few posts about this poster in March 2014. Look at those for more information.
I made this in InDesign. I used the grids to lay it out all mathematically. It isn't my favorite program in the world but it is manageable. I don't know why we had to do this project, but whatever. I ain't the teacher.
We had to be interviewed. Apparently we can't tell stories about ourselves and aren't capable enough to do it on our own. We also needed a professional picture of ourselves. That we can't do ourselves. Selfies are so stupid and don't do us any good in the real world.

Here are my logo artboards. I have a few posts about these logos. I posted stuff in April 2014 and May 1st 2014. You can look at those for more information.

I think that I don't need a personal logo because I don't plan on going solo in the graphic design world but whatever. I guess I have one.

Alright. Here is a typography poster that I made in my spare time in graphic design. I choose the Mad Hatter and choose movie quotes that he said or relate to him. I think I might have put some dialogue in there as well but I really like it. I don't know how I feel about the yellow background. In the time I actually worked on it and with the effort I put in it I think that it's fine.
